Back to the Future : The Long-Term Effects of Skilled Migration on Tech-Intensive Trade
This paper uses hybrid panel data models to assess the link between Italian mass emigration of the late 19 th - early 20 th centuries on knowledge-based high-technology manufacturing exports of Italian regions in the 2000s. Our results add to the well known evidence of migration and trade nexus showing that historical skilled migration exerts a pro-trade effect over the long run. Such an evidence confirms the existence of the so-called information effect of diasporas
