Cooperation Determinants in the Atlantic Blue Economy

Maritime and marine activities are getting significant attention from European policy as a domain that encompasses economic sectors of traditional relevance and new ones of fast growth. This short communication presents the results of a survey applied to maritime and marine organizations in Portugal, Spain, Ireland and United Kingdom. Innovation, human capital and social capital are dimensions that deserve attention in the creation and consolidation of the Blue economy. The empirical study uses survey data to estimate an econometric ordered Logit model to understand the determinants of cooperation. The study found that the participation in innovation activities and the level of absorptive capacity are critical aspects to induce cooperation.
