Argentina Environmental and Social Safeguards Issues Paper: Upstreaming Environmental and Social Risk Management
In November 2008, as an input into the country strategy update that was being prepared, an Environmental Sectorial Note (ESN) was prepared by Bank technical staff. This paper examines the extent to which the concerns and priorities identified in the ESN were picked up in the country strategy update at the time and acted upon in the Bank's subsequent lending and Technical Cooperation operations between 2009 and the present. It also examines the current set of Argentina's Country Strategy Sector Notes for agriculture/ranching, tourism, energy, and transport, among others, to determine whether and how these and other relevant environment-related issues and proposed actions have been incorporated. And it makes recommendations for Bank support on the basis of this assessment and other information regarding current environmental challenges and priorities in Argentina.
